Order a tank from one supplier, a sensor from another, then organise the installation, the commissioning and the subscription: until now, connecting your fuel storage felt like a project in its own right.

Since June 2026, the partnership between COGETIL, a French tank manufacturer, and FOUR DATA has changed that: the connected fuel tank leaves the factory with its NOVA radar gauge fitted and commissioned, and arrives on site already communicating.

This model is called OEM. Here is how it works, why it is emerging now, and what it changes in practice for fuel professionals.

An OEM connected tank (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is a tank whose telemetry sensor is fitted directly at the factory by the manufacturer. The customer receives equipment that is already communicating: the connected gauge measures the fuel level and transmits the data remotely, with no installation or configuration needed on site.

In other words, connectivity is no longer an option added after the fact. It becomes a characteristic of the product, in the same way as the tank’s capacity or material.

In the COGETIL x FOUR DATA partnership, the division of roles is simple: FOUR DATA designs and manufactures the sensor, COGETIL fits it to its tanks and sells it under its own offer. The end customer sees a single product, a ready-to-use tank with telemetry built in from the start.

Spring 2026 was a blunt reminder. The conflict in the Middle East and the disruption of the Strait of Hormuz pushed fuel prices up within days.

Companies whose activity depends on their reserves saw their costs soar with no visibility over their actual stocks:

• farms;
• construction sites;
• hauliers;
• local authority fleets.

A ceasefire has since brought relative calm. But the lesson remains: in an energy market that has become structurally volatile, knowing precisely what is left in your tanks and anticipating refills is a management lever in its own right.

This is exactly the need the OEM model addresses, by removing the last point of friction: the equipment itself.

COGETIL, Compagnie Générale d’Outillage, is a family-owned French company founded in 1947 and based in Raillencourt-Sainte-Olle, in the Hauts-de-France region. It designs, produces and assembles custom tanks for professionals:

• capacities from 700 to 10,000 litres;
• in polyethylene or galvanised steel;
• for storing fuels, AdBlue, lubricants and technical fluids.

Its products are distributed by specialist wholesalers and by a network of 700 to 800 independent companies that supply fuel to private and professional customers.

FOUR DATA, an industrial company based in Dijon, designs connected sensors and supervision platforms for remote monitoring of tanks, silos and storage facilities. Its sensors already equip the fleets of energy distributors in France and across Europe, particularly in the oil & gas sector.

One masters the container, the other the data. The partnership grew out of this complementarity, and out of a shared conviction: telemetry should fade behind the product.

The sensor selected for this partnership is the NOVA connected radar gauge, designed and manufactured by FOUR DATA and listed in the COGETIL catalogue. Its characteristics meet the constraints of the field:

• Non-contact radar measurement: the sensor never touches the fluid, making it compatible with fuels (diesel, non-road diesel, HVO), AdBlue, oils and many other products, both liquid and solid.
• ±2% accuracy with 1 mm resolution: enough to manage refills and detect abnormal consumption.
• 6 to 10 years of battery life on a replaceable lithium battery, depending on transmission frequency. No wiring, no external power supply.
• Automatic transmission over LTE-M and NB-IoT networks, with wide coverage including rural areas.
• IP68 protection rating and 2-inch thread fitting, with adapters available for other diameters.
• API integration with an existing management or supervision tool.

Factory fitting turns these technical characteristics into one simple benefit: the tank is delivered with its gauge already in service, a one-year subscription included from first commissioning, and no installation fees to budget for.

Let’s look at the daily routine of a tank user before, with and after this model.

For distribution professionals, the benefit is twofold: the tank arrives directly linked to their interfaces and plugged into FOUR DATA’s optimisation tools, opening the way to delivery route optimisation and autonomy forecasting for their own customers.

This partnership says something bigger than an agreement between two French companies. By making connectivity native rather than optional, COGETIL and FOUR DATA are moving the line on what professionals can expect from a new tank.

The pattern echoes other industrial equipment: geolocation on construction machinery and smart energy metering both started as options before becoming standards.

Fuel storage is following the same path, and early feedback from the field points the same way: COGETIL’s sales teams, trained in summer 2026, recorded their first connected tank sales within weeks.

For equipment manufacturers (fixed tanks, mobile tanks, IBCs, distribution hardware), the OEM model is a concrete way to move upmarket: FOUR DATA’s technology integrates into their products, under their brand, with a white-label platform if needed. Without diverting their industrial operations from their core business.
